The key to a great family vacation is ensuring that everyone is satisfied and that particularly applies to children. While you might relish a day’s walk across pebbled streets in Dubrovnik or enjoy photographing ancient sites, your kids might not be as enthusiastic about doing the same. To ensure that is not the case, here are a few excellent children-engaging activities to do with kids in Croatia.
Play beach volleyball and make sandcastles
The kids are no doubt going to have fun participating in either one of these activities and Croatia’s sandy delights ensure that the fun is never-ending. While a number of the beaches are pebbly, you can find sandy options at Korcula’s Vela Przina, Lopar village, Sakarun, Cres Island, Hvar Island, and Nin.
Visit Krka National Park
Majestic waterfalls characterize this national park that provides residence to the graceful Krka River that affords not only pleasing scenery excellent for picnics but also great swimming spots right under the waterfalls. The kids are sure to love it.
Try out a scavenger hunt
Well, don’t children love a good scavenger hunt? Of course, they do and in Croatia, you could make a game out of the countless sites across the country. For instance, in Zagreb, you could make a challenge of finding artistically decorated water pumps or if you prefer a practical treasure hunt in the woods, then your family could try their hand at Geocaching where you look for a cache using a GPS device.
Let the kids play
The country is very conscious about family vacations and providing engaging activities for all parties and as such you’ll find many playgrounds, parks and other wide-open spaces decorated with fun equipment for the children such as trampoline and other toys. More often than not, there’ll be a coffee shop nearby where you can relax and watch from a safe distance.
Windsurfing is also a good idea
It’s time to put down those iPads down and jump off a cliff. Well, it doesn’t sound as bad as it appears as there are many safe and excellent places to windsurf in locations such as Bol on Brac Island, Savudrija, Viganj, and Nin. Also, there are a number of windsurfing schools in each area that’ll teach your children the ropes while the requisite rental equipment is also in plenty.
Sail the beautiful waters
Croatia is blessed with a host of gorgeous islands such as the Pakleni chain, Hvar and Brac, just to name a few, and you and the kids can experience some of the Adriatic’s treats aboard a ferry. Better yet, rent a boat and get a whole vessel exclusively for your family and sail wherever you like along the striking Dalmatian coast.
Go to the water park
Croatia has many water parks but the Aquapark Istralandia is an especially glorious haven that tickles the fancy of all children. Just a quarter of an hour away from Novigrad in Istria north-west Croatia, the park is an assortment of different sized swimming pools, five restaurants, badminton and volleyball courts and, of course, 1.2 kilometers worth of endearing slides. It features the country’s tallest drop- a staggering 27 meters- and has all the essential amenities you need from ATMs to WiFi.
Kids might be a difficult breed to please but even they can’t resist the luring appeal of Croatia’s enthralling activities.
